It is up to the boat owners to decide who can rent their boats and what skills are needed to do so. In general, boat owners want to have previous experience of navigating in similar waters and operating and being a skipper on a similar type of boat. Advanced courses and degrees are by no means a necessity for renting and this of course depends on the owner. So the owner himself is the best to answer this question whether he requires previous skipping experience! Be sure to fill in your boating CV well, so that the renting decision is as easy as possible to make.
